Antique Victorian Chairs

Victorian Chairs were central to almost every room in the Victorian Home, from the parlor, the most important room in the house, to the Master Bed chambers, the most private room.  Turkish Rockers, Conversation chairs, Victorian Easy Chairs, elaborate Victorian Window chairs, Corner Chairs, “Tilting and Revoling ” chairs, and many more are only some of the varieties of chairs popular during the Victorian Era.  Most were designed for “His and Her” use, Ladies Chairs were more petite in stature, without arms, and lower to the ground.  The Gentleman’s Chairs were taller, more massive in scale, and had arm rests.

The Industrial Age gave rise to the importance of the Victorian Office., and the Office chairs.  Tyler Desk Co. in St.Louis Missouri was known for their “Revolving and Tilting” chairs, or the Victorian Swivel chair.  Some were purely functional, like the traditional “Bank of England” chair, and some had gilt and ebonized incised details, upholstered in Leather.  Antiquarian Traders has taken the swivel chair to a new level, by restoring Victorian armchairs and adding a swivel base.  We re-enforce the chair, restore the frame to its original beautiful condition, and upholster in rich Italian leather.  Antiquarian Traders also has a large inventory of “client’s chairs” or pairs of Victorian armchairs we have restored and upholstered in leather.  One of Antiquarian Trader’s signature antique Victorian swivels paired with client’s chairs and an executive desk, and your office is Robber Baron worthy.
